Lemon Pepper Seasoning Recipe

I’ve found that I really like to use fresh lemon juice in many of my recipes, like chicken piccata. Especially because our family lives in a place where fresh citrus is widely available. This lemon chili spice mix was born when I wanted to find a way to use up all those leftover lemons and lime peels!

I use leftover peels cleaning products Sometimes, but I also figured out a way to dry/dehydrate them for food use. I was using lemon peel, salt and pepper in many recipes when I realized I should just mix them in advance and have them ready to use.

Plus it’s cheaper and healthier than lemon chili spice from the grocery store! Most of the time store-bought spices have synthetic ingredients added to them, like a lot of food items.

How to make lemon chili

The process is very easy and you can do it one of two ways. If you’re using fresh lemon peels (lime works too), they’ll need to be dried in an oven or dehydrator first. Then I mix the fresh dried peels with whole black pepper and salt. Either a food processor or spice grinder works well for this.

For an even spicier version, you can mix pre-dried lemon peel granules with ground black pepper and salt. I’ve included links to all the different ingredients in the recipe below.

What to mix with lemon spice

I didn’t think I liked lemon pepper until pregnancy cravings made me obsessed with it. And the passion never went away. In my opinion, it is perfect for everything, it adds a delicious, mildly spicy lemon flavor to foods. For added flavor to meat and vegetables, also add a little onion powder and garlic powder.

Homemade Lemon Chilli Masala Recipe

Homemade lemon chili seasoning with lemon or lime juice, pepper and salt is a great addition to fish, chicken or vegetables.

  • If using fresh lemons, preheat the oven on the lowest setting. Peel the lemon thoroughly and spread the fresh lemon on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Place in the oven on the lowest setting and leave until completely dry. It took about 70 minutes of my time.

  • Once completely dry, blend in a food processor with the pepper and salt until well mixed. If making with pre-dried lemon peels, combine all ingredients in a food processor until blended.
