Tekan is proud to offer end-to-end cellomics workflow solutions, including cell seeding and quality control and monitoring from culture, live-cell imaging and analysis to drug dosing. Complex 3D cell models – such as spheroids, organoids and organ-on-a-chip systems – have great potential in many applications, from drug development to personalized medicine research. Lack of reproducibility still poses a challenge in many areas of this workflow. Tecan’s Cellomics portfolio includes the recently launched Uno Single Cell Dispenser™, a compact, automated benchtop instrument that dispenses single-cell isolation and reagents in a single system. This cost-effective device enables researchers to dispense single cells into a 384-well plate in approximately 5 minutes and maintains a robust 90% cell viability for downstream analysis.

Central to Tecan’s offering for Cellomics is Fluent® Automated liquid handling workstations. The system, optimized for cell culture maintenance, cell seeding and medium exchange (from 6- to 1,536-well plates), handles complex matrices such as Matrigel.® Easily and offers a truly scalable workflow through the integration of centrifuges, incubators and peripheral devices. To automate the generation of dose-response curves, synergy tests and serial dilutions, the D300e digital dispenser provides automated dispensing from the picoliter to microliter scale, empowering both small- and large-molecule drug discovery.

Tecan’s flagship multimode reader, Spark® Cyto, specifically designed for automated monitoring of live-cell cultures and assay measurements. Its imaging system, which includes both bright field and fluorescence capabilities, and its full environmental control (temperature and gas), support complete well imaging of microplates and uninterrupted cell growth for rapid analysis and reliable results. Combining multiplex plate reading and cell image analysis in a single instrument improves assay reproducibility and reliability of results. This provides further insights, including assessment of ATP levels and sphere growth.

In an update scheduled for 2024, the introduction of AI-based 3D analysis tools for Spark Cyto will further enhance the instrument’s capabilities. The tools will open up new possibilities for scientific research by improving the efficiency, accuracy and depth of insights derived from experiments.
